Artificial Intelligence Is Here Series: Citizen Consent and the Use of AI in Government

Description

Governments are increasingly exploring the use of algorithms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to improve performance and increase the speed and fairness of decision making. Should governments have the support of their citizens to legitimize the use of AI and what obstacles do they face in doing so?

Join this event as Peter Loewen, Director of the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, and Wendy H. Wong, Canada Research Chair in Global Governance and Civil Society, discuss the major obstacles facing the use of AI in governments worldwide, including:

  • justifying the use of algorithms in government
  • citizens' assessment of algorithmic innovation
  • citizens' trust in algorithms against algorithmic performance
  • possible opposition or backlash to AI-enabled government
