Description
On our skin and inside our body live tens of trillions of bacteria, fungi and viruses known as our microbiota. While not glamorous, these bacteria have the very important job of nourishing us and supporting important human functions including digestion, immune health and vitamin production. Like a fingerprint, our microbiota are completely unique to each of us, and while they are highly adaptable, when disrupted they can wreak havoc on our health and well-being.
Through cutting-edge experimental techniques, scientists are now able to observe and measure how changes in health, diet and medication affect our microbes. In the future, they hope to apply this knowledge to the treatment of a range of common medical disorders.
Join this event for a presentation and fireside chat with CIFAR fellow Dr. Carolina Tropini about her research on microbiota, gut health and precision medicine. Dr. Tropini will discuss how this research could lead to better health outcomes for millions of people.
