Democracy in Practice Series
To function effectively, Canada's federal public service relies on the stability of its democratic institutions and the cooperation of its citizens. However, satisfaction with democracy has declined in many countries, raising questions about how democratic practices and institutions can be strengthened to counter this situation.
This event series highlights the challenges that are currently impacting democracies and their implications for public servants. Events will examine topics such as deliberative democracy, global advocacy, empowering diverse voices, and media literacy.
Participants will learn how factors such as social incivility, solitude, and declining trust in and hostility towards governments are eroding democracies around the world, and examine some of the best practices being used to counter the associated risks.
