Geopolitics and National Security Series: Canada in the World

Description

The shifting dynamics of global power are reshaping geopolitics and eroding the concept of a rules-based international order. The norms and values embedded in that concept—democracy, multilateralism, human rights, and free trade, among others—are in retreat or under pressure. Canada, which has benefited from a rules-based system, is now grappling with the challenges and opportunities posed by these new geopolitical dynamics and a multi-polar world.

The second event in this series will explore Canada's position in the world and question what a Canada equipped for this new era would look like. It will address the importance of establishing Canadian interests and values to determine Canada's position in a world of competing great powers and shifting geopolitical dynamics. The panellists will discuss how Canada can best proceed in this new environment and examine where additional focus is required.
