Description
An early promise of globalization was that the increased trade and openness amongst nations would bring new benefits and advantages for all. However, the reality has been far more complicated and much less uplifting, especially for democratic countries like Canada and the United States.
This fascinating event will highlight how countries across the globe are now competing in a zero-sum game for global market share in advanced technology industries, such as computer manufacturing, electronics, pharmaceuticals and automobiles. The event will also bring to light how countries that are leading the way benefit from greater economic prosperity, strengthened trade relationships and national security, while the countries that lag behind experience the opposite.
Participants will discover how advanced technology industries differ from other types of industries, hear arguments in support of maintaining domestic expertise in these industries as opposed to outsourcing it abroad, and better understand the roles that the public, private and academic sectors play in shaping industrial policy decisions.
