CSPS Virtual Café Series: Lived Experiences of Black Canadians (rebroadcast)

Description

The collective impact of Black individuals on the growth, well-being, and prosperity of our country is truly remarkable. That many of these achievements were made while also confronting and combatting inequality, discrimination, and racism make them all the more significant.

To mark Black History Month 2021, we focused on the achievements, experiences, and knowledge of two extraordinary Black leaders in Canada.

Revisit the conversation as Dori Tunstall, Dean of the Faculty of Design at OCAD University, and Adrian Harewood, co-host of CBC News Ottawa, discussed their experiences, journeys, and understandings. Topics included:

  • their most memorable achievements, letdowns, and hopes for the future
  • what the Black Lives Matter movement and the pandemic have taught us about working towards a better and more consciously inclusive society
  • what lessons they take from their careers in design and journalism that might inform a better path forward for the public service
  • what they believe organizations like the public service can do to achieve a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace
