CSPS Virtual Café Series: The Future of Work - A Conversation with Armine Yalnizyan and Gary Bolles

Description

The nature of work is changing. This was the case before the pandemic, but with the actions taken to counter the economic ills caused by this crisis, major trends such as the automation of work are accelerating and we are experiencing an exacerbation of societal inequity due to the uneven nature of job losses.

In recent years, we have witnessed the rise of the gig economy and the shift from manufacturing to service and knowledge economies. On the horizon, demographic changes will also have a significant impact on work, including demand for care workers and a shrinking working age population. Automation and artificial intelligence will shift the dynamics of the labour market by altering the skills that employers will value.

Join us for the next Virtual Café event with two distinguished experts on the future of work: Armine Yalnizyan, Economist and Atkinson Fellow on the Future of Workers, and Gary Bolles, Chair for Future of Work at Singularity University. Together, they will explore questions such as:

  • What will be the lasting impact of COVID-19 on workers?
  • Will automation help or harm us?
  • Should young people be anxious about their economic future?
