CSPS Virtual Café Series: Maintaining Passion for Public Service

Description

Confucius once said, "Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life." While the Chinese philosopher may not have been thinking about the public service when he said this, as it turns out, there is plenty of evidence to indicate that individuals who work in public sector roles are uniquely motivated. For many, finding ways to ignite and sustain this passion contributes to their overall satisfaction and success. Organizational cultures that nurture this passion and motivation also stand to benefit greatly.

At this event, experts James L. Perry, Lotte Bøgh Andersen and Jeannette Taylor will share the results of their research on the links between public service passion, workforce satisfaction, and organizational success. Topics will include:

  • why public sector employees appear to be motivated differently than individuals whose work is driven by other factors or outcomes
  • why organizational leaders should care if their employees are passionate about their work
  • how the pandemic may have affected motivation and what this could mean for the future of public sector institutions
