Jonathan Craft, B.A., M.A., Ph.D. is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. He is also the founding director of Policy Ready, a research and teaching platform focused on revitalizing public sector policy-making for the digital era. In 2019 to 2020 he was a visiting scholar with the Australia and New Zealand School of Government. He currently serves as associate editor of the Journal of Comparative Policy Analysis.
Jonathan specializes in comparative public policy and administration, policy analysis, and Canadian politics. He is particularly interested in the study of the policy process, political-administrative relations, policy advice, and the intersection of technology and policy-making. He is the author of Policy Advice and the Westminster Tradition (Cambridge University Press, 2020); Backrooms and Beyond: Partisan Advisers and the Politics of Policy Work in Canada (University of Toronto Press, 2016) and is a co-editor of Policy Work in Canada: Professional Practices and Analytical Capacities (University of Toronto Press, 2017). Before joining the University of Toronto, he worked as a federal public servant and a legislative assistant at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
In January 2024, Jonathan will join the Canada School of Public Service as a visiting scholar through the Jocelyne Bourgon Visiting Scholar Initiative. In this role, he will support the School in encouraging greater awareness of issues related to public sector management, public administration and the role and functions of government.
