From the GC Data Community: This event will present Indigenous Services Canada’s transformational approach to data sharing with Indigenous partners and organizations as part of its multi-phase initiative to advance Indigenous data sovereignty. The discussion will outline ISC’s data sharing approach, its data governance structure, and the tools and networks it is developing to improve data sharing.

June 5, 10:00 to 11:30 am (ET). From Canada School of Public Service: This event features Jutta Treviranus, PhD, Director of the Inclusive Design Research Centre at Ontario College of Art and Design University, who will present her research and share her insights into what AI reveals and what it obscures, especially for people with disabilities. She will also explore the intersection of AI, inclusion and accessibility, including where automation and assistive technologies could help remove barriers for people with disabilities.
June 18, 1:00 to 2:30 pm (ET). From Canada School of Public Service: This forward-looking event will unpack the unintended consequences and ethical implications of AI on mental health and psychological well-being, and examine how to minimize these risks and other potential negative impacts.
June 25, 1:30 to 3:00 pm (ET). From Canada School of Public Service: This event will examine the implementation of machine learning tools and technologies within the Government of Canada, and explore the skills, data, infrastructure, planning and leadership required for success. It will focus on how to use AI to streamline and synthesize departmental data holdings as a crucial first step for most AI use cases.
June 27, 1:30 to 3:00 pm (ET). From Canada School of Public Service: This event will demonstrate the effectiveness of taking iterative approaches to program and service delivery and will highlight the importance of collecting regular feedback and prototype data to make evidence-informed decisions.

The GC Data Community (GCDC) has released its annual report for 2023-24, including 2024-25 priorities. Each year, the GCDC carries out projects and initiatives to fulfill its mission to connect, engage, and serve the growing number of data practitioners, enablers, and users across the Government of Canada to improve policies, programs, and service delivery to Canadians. At the semi-final event on May 15, nine interdisciplinary, cross-departmental teams of public servants pitched their ideas for how government could make better use of data. The judging panel of senior data leaders asked questions, then whittling the contestants down to four.
The strategy outlines a proactive, whole-of-government approach to ensure that the Government can quickly and effectively combat cyber threats and address vulnerabilities across the government’s digital estate. The strategy aims to help safeguard government systems, protect Canadians’ information and strengthen the resilience of digital government to ensure the continued delivery of secure and reliable digital services.
This interim report sets out an up-to-date, science-based understanding of the safety of advanced AI systems. The independent, international, and inclusive report is a landmark moment of international collaboration. It marks the first time the international community has come together to support efforts to build a shared scientific and evidence-based understanding of frontier AI risks. (In English only.)
This report from OBVIA (Observatoire international sur les impacts sociétaux de l'IA et du numérique) aims to describe use cases of AI in public organizations in OECD countries. The intention is to enrich knowledge and understanding of the potential of AI by presenting a range of systems with varied technical capabilities. (In French only.)
From Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat: The digital competencies incorporate international standards and input from subject matter experts who participated in dozens of workshops. Competencies are dynamic, and everyone sees them through a different lens. This version is the 17th iteration completed with more than 200 participants from 29 organizations over the last 10 months.
From Library and Archives Canada: Last March, LAC conducted a survey to gather feedback and ideas from the GC information management community on a project to renew the Generic Valuation Tools (GVTs). 125 individuals representing over 65 different organizations responded, and the summary and detailed survey analysis report are now available on GCconnex.
The Digital Transformation Office at Canadian Digital Service and Principal Publisher work together on the GC Task Success Survey. It’s a continuously running survey on Canada.ca that asks questions related to three key elements: task success, ease, and satisfaction. The report for the 2023/2024 fiscal year (link only accessible within GC network) containing detailed performance data is now available for download.

During this workshop, you will focus on your target audience, use statistics to present your story and put numbers into a context to help your audience understand your messages.

In this session, Lora Aroyo, Research Scientist at Google Research in NYC, highlights the importance of culturally-aware and society-centred research on the data used in training and evaluating machine models and fostering responsible AI deployment in diverse sociocultural contexts. What caught our attention
The French Cybersecurity Agency (Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d'information) released its security recommendations guide for generative AI systems focusing on securing architecture. It aims to raise awareness of the risks linked to generative AI as well as to promote best practices to be implemented from the design and training phase of an AI model to the implementation phase, deployment, and use in production. The Digital Governance Council (DGC), in collaboration with Hill & Knowlton, conducted a comprehensive survey of 1,500 participants in January 2024 to delve into the minds of Canadians and unravel their perceptions, concerns, and willingness to share personal data.
