Labs Canada – Proof of concept
Démonstration de faisabilité – Laboratoires Canada
- AAFC led a project that will enable science based departments and agencies to easily develop and share scientific data analysis tools in a GoC
Cloud environment, by providing them with streamlined documentation, best practices and guidelines to reference.
PHILIPPE COUROUX (Manager, Science Solutions, Agriculture and Argi-Food Canada): We did a proof of concept with Laboratories Canada and that's where it fits into a different way of using the Cloud with us, because we aim to do a lot of analyses on what's called Big Data.
So, it would be to see how we can use the Cloud to facilitate and improve the speed of these analyses and the processing of data. And there is a guide that will come out soon.
And then, we dealt with several aspects, we also checked how long it would take versus obviously, what are we doing on the sites, but also how much it would cost, how much it would cost to store the data, to analyze the data.
So, what came out of it was super interesting and then, it will help guide the future of what will happen in terms of everything that is cloud-based.
[00:01:04: Text appears on screen: Proof of Concept - Laboratories Canada Deliverables:
- Directory of existing pipelines that are comparable across multiple
departments and can be implemented in those departments' respective cloud environments.
- Documentation consisting of instructions, best practices and guidelines on the development of applications/pipelines compatible with the Government of Canada.
- GoC core cloud standards and department-specific configurations
- Future development and deployment guidelines for cloud compatibility
- Cost estimate and optimization opportunities to deploy existing workflows]
PHILIPPE COUROUX: So in terms of deliverables, it's a bit like what I just mentioned: estimating costs and optimization opportunities, deploying workflows, so pipelines that will be able to be put on cloud environments.
